Santa Ana’s Noncitizen Residents Pay Estimated $117 Million in State and Local Taxes — Harbor Institute for Immigrant & Economic Justice

Immigrant residents of Orange County are a vital part of local communities and economies. Regardless of formal federal immigration status, they run small businesses, work, own homes, and pay taxes throughout the region. In the city of Santa Ana — the county seat, where the largest population of immigrants in Orange County lives — noncitizen residents pay an estimated over $117 million in state and local taxes.
Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey and information from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy’s most recent analysis of state and local tax systems, we estimate that Santa Ana’s noncitizen residents contribute about $117,814,962 annually in state and local taxes. We also estimate that noncitizen residents of Orange County overall contribute about $751,043,807 in state and local taxes.
